Excerpts of Interviews with Eve Myles about Broadchurch sex scenes
Best Daily UK: Monday, Feb 2, 2015
Last week viewers saw an intense love scene between her character, Claire, and Claire's ex-husband Lee - but Eve says behind-the-scenes it was far from sexy.
"Sorry James D'Arcy. It was as sexy as an old cloth," the Welsh star confessed, "It was bizarre because obviously when you get a scene like that, what people don't understand that it is choreographed within an inch of it's life."
"It's like a dance. You talk it through. You know where you're hands are going to go. You know where you're going to kiss, you know what you're going to do. You make sure the person opposite you is completely comfortable and aware of everything that's going to happen. We had the conversation and we went through it like a dance, we knew exactly what we were going to do," she explained during an interview.
And mum-of-two Eve had us all giggling when she revealed what she was really thinking about when filming the intimate scenes with her co-star James D'Arcy.
"So two hours of D'Arcy, sweating naked on my back, he gets off and says - as she puts on a posh accent - 'Darling I'm so sorry. Oh God, this is such an ordeal for you. I've been on top of you for two hours'. I was like, 'Oh no I'm so sorry because in two weeks time, I'm going on holiday with my kids and all I can think about is what [sun cream] factor to put them in.'" she laughed.
"I said I've just been doing a boots list of toiletries. I did a list of toiletries in my head for two hours going, 'Yes, for the first three days they will be factor 50, right I'm probably going to need three bottles of aftersun just in case'. So I was making this list with a naked James D'Arcy on my back".

Broadchurch star Eve Myles gave an hilarious interview on today’s This Morning without giving any plot secrets away about the second series of the ITV mystery.
The 37 year-old had hosts Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley in stitches after they asked her what her mum thought of her sexy scenes with on-screen husband James Darcy.
Myles coyly replied “what sex scene?” at first but soon explained that it was not terribly romantic.
“It was just flat out sweating a bit lying down, having a chat, sweating a bit. That’s not sex in Wales!”
TV Choice Guide Magazine UK: Interview Extra: Eve Myles, Broadchurch, February 17, 2015
What was it like working with James D’Arcy?
He’s not a bad looker is he? Apart from him being really quite beautiful, he’s an incredibly generous person so it’s been really hard work! When I was told who was going to play the role I Googled to find out all about him. You’re only as good as the person opposite you and we knew we had some fantastic stuff to do, we wanted to do it proud. I would say that 99 per cent of the scenes we worked out before turning up on set because rehearsal was very short.

Have you found it difficult to play Claire?
“Very difficult. On Broadchurch, you don’t get all the scripts straightaway so the character unfolds through the filming process.
“There were a couple of scenes I found difficult to shake off and I’m not that type of actor usually. I love my job, but I know when I get in the car, I’m going home. But then again, I’ve never played somebody like Claire before, she’s a giant of a character."
Was it quite frightening filming some of the scenes?
“The scene where Claire trashes the kitchen in the cottage in episode six was pretty scary, but the entire thing was choreographed within an inch of its life because it’s somebody’s beautiful house, and the last thing you want is to smash it up. We did the scene twice.”
What do you think of Lee and Claire’s relationship?
“They bring the worst out in each other. Claire knows their relationship is poison, but they have this strong sinister connection. Apart from James D’Arcy [who plays Lee Ashworth] being really quite beautiful and an incredibly generous person, it’s been really hard working with him! No, he’s lovely!”

"It’s bizarre, lots of people have said it’s really sexy," she tells Love Sunday in her Welsh drawl. "But the bedroom scene is just a couple of people having a lie down. That’s not sex in Wales! We were just having a friendly chat."
Cardiff-based Eve laughs profusely, "They are the unsexiest, most practical scenes you can do because they’re choreographed within an inch of their lives," she reveals. "In the scene where James was lying on my back, I did a mental shopping list of toiletries for a holiday. I was taking my kids to Greece and, by the end, I nailed every single item I needed. And then I was thinking about fish and chips… because it was a Friday."
Eve’s chest has also caused a bit of a stir with the mums at the school gate, who told her they had to look away in the scene when Lee flashed Claire’s breasts checking whether she was wearing a wire.
"Some mums said they didn’t know where to look. I was thinking, 'You ain’t seen nothing yet!'"
While the storyline can be pretty heavy, Eve and the cast try their best to keep things light-hearted on set. "When I turned over after that bed scene, James had put on some daisy nipple covers, and said, 'Well if you’re wearing them, I’m wearing them,'" laughs Eve. "Then I turned over and I had a big cod piece on… joke! I didn’t. You’ve got to keep things light. Certain scenes are hard to shake off."
