Gorgeous "Gernika" Poster for Malaga
- Category: Latest updates
Koldo Serra's new movie poster for Gernika which is competing for the Golden Biznaga at the Malaga Film Festival was unveiled today and it is stunning!
Gernika opens next Tuesday: To Purchase Tickets
26 April 2016 Teatro Cervantes: Press Pass at 12.00 and 22.00
27 April 2016 Cine Albeniz: 19.00 and 23.15
@gernikathemovie informs us that the premiere will be attended by Koldo Serra, the producers, as well as Maria Valverde, Ingrid Garcia-Jonsson and Barbara Goenaga.
An interview with Koldo Serra during a set visit reveals that Gernika won't be a strict war movie like Pearl Harbour, but more of a love story in context of the bombing heralding the evolution of the Second World War.
Koldo Serra says the film delivers the message how war propaganda manipulates the news that is shown to the world. "It is surprising that Germany did not officially recognize until 1997, their responsibility in the bombing of Gernika" he said.
The story recounts the love between the journalist who reported the bombing (Henry, James D'Arcy) and an idealistic editor of the Republican Press Office (Teresa, Maria Valverde). Their romance is observed with jealousy by the Soviet political commisar who controls the press office (Vasyl, Jack Davenport).
But Teresa is no damsel in distress as she is a strong heroine ahead of her time, well-educated, can speak several languages, who rebels against an arranged marriage to pursue her ideal to see democracy in Spain. As is the other female protagonist played by Ingrid Garcia-Jonsson, a brave, ambitious war photojournalist. This is also a film about emerging feminism within a patriarchal society.
Irene Escolar plays Teresa's cousin, Barbara Goenaga is Teresa's assistant, Alex Garcia, Victor Clavijo and Julian Villagran are other journalists.
There is also an interview with Pecado Films producer, Jose Alba which is covered in detail in this publication with new images of the film. Alba describes how Gernika was conceived and nurtured with a great deal of persistence and masochism over 5 years.
