Excerpts of Interviews about James D'Arcy
- Category: Latest updates
With the airing of the Finale this week, Hayley Atwell and the showrunners made their round of interviews to wrap up Season 2 of Marvel's Agent Carter. Here are excerpts from their interviews offering revelations of what a national treasure James D'Arcy is! (well, we already knew that..)
On finding out that there was going to be a musical number
It was hilarious! First of all, James [D’Arcy] jumped up like a schoolgirl, he was so excited. He was like, “Oh my god, oh my god, I’m gonna wear a top hat!” He was loving it, loving it. That was great, and very, very funny.

There's an awesome blooper reel!
It was very sweet, after we finished filming, they had put together a blooper compilation. It was about four minutes long, and Eric Pearson, one of the writers, and James D’Arcy were like, “No, no, no, there’s got to be more than that!” They ran into the editing suite and spent a whole afternoon compiling as much as they could, and it was a much longer reel that we saw.
Why he looks at his phone all the time...
I’ve made lifelong friends, and that was all very organic, how that happened. I have a text group on my phone, between James D’Arcy, Chris Dingess, Eric Pearson, Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters and Wendy Willming at Marvel, and we chat random nonsense at each other, throughout the day.

James D’Arcy (Edwin Jarvis) and I made a pact to each other the first day of filming Season 1 that we would have the most amount of fun we could possibly have … that was legal and in the world of professionalism, and we did! It was amazing to go through this with him, because we couldn’t get through a lot of the scenes because we were laughing so much.
What you see on screen is James and I having an absolute ball, essentially trying to make each other laugh. There were times when James would do things that were so outrageous that ended up having to be on the blooper reel. We have hours and hours on our blooper reel footage.
We did a half-way party when we were filming — halfway through the shoot — and James [D’Arcy] and I wanted to publicly acknowledge the families of the crew and the cast, who sacrifice their loved ones to do this show, because they just don’t see them through the duration of it.

James knows what's in the redacted S.O.E. File
James D’Arcy is so nosy, so he went sniffing around the writers’ room trying to figure it out. He finally found out what the secret was, and then on the last day he ran up to me and told me. I do know what that secret is. It’s really exciting, and it changes a lot. It basically gives us our core for season 3 if we were to go to a season 3. It’s really amazing, but I don’t want to get too excited about it in case we don’t get picked up again, so I can’t really say anything. Or it might get picked up in a couple years. I’m sworn to secrecy on it, but it’s really clever. Those clever writers!

Because he's a real-life sweetie:
We got a call a few weeks ago from James D’Arcy who was calling to say, “Whatever happens, this is the best job I’ve ever had. You guys are amazing writers. You guys are amazing showrunners and I hope we can do it again or if not do something else.” That doesn’t happen a lot and it’s a testament to what a good person he is but also what a good job this is for everybody.

Atwell’s relationship with co-star James D'Arcy is similarly sibling-like. Randomly throughout the day, she’ll jump out and surprise him, or send silly pictures and texts, or mock him for getting emotional while watching The English Patient. “Just annoying him — it’s one of my favorite things to do because he’s easily wound up,” she says with a laugh.

On Peggy and Jarvis blow out scene in the desert
It’s probably one of my favorite things I’ve ever written and to see Hayley and James and how they perform it was amazing. ..
It was mid-day in “the middle of a dusty, windy mesa out in the desert”. Everyone was focused on the scene, quietly watching it because Atwell and D’Arcy were giving an incredible performance.
