A charismatic Student’s Union President. He is cocky, morally ambiguous, seductive and a group of student activists follow him like some demi-god.
Plot: Based on a novel by Reginald Hill. Dalziel and Pascoe are thrown into university life when the body of a former university principal, Alison Girling, who supposedly died in a bus crash in Austria, is found underneath her own memorial statue in the university car park. Speaking to all of the staff who worked with Girling prior to her death, Dalziel struggles to make any headway until the body of Anita Sewell, a student accusing another staff member of sexual harassment, is found naked on a nearby golf course. Suspecting they may have a serial killer on their hands, the trail leads straight to the doorstep of the accused – Sam Fallowfield – only for the pair to find his house trashed and gay slurs written all over the wall. Suspecting the culprit is closer to home, Dalziel's anger blows its top when he arrives back at the university to find his temporary police HQ has been trashed by students. And then Fallowfield is found dead.

James D’Arcy: Trouble was, I spent my entire fee in the first week and got into debt, so I worked for six month as a labourer on a building site. It’s very hard to motivate yourself and even to get up in the morning if you have nothing to do. The building job gave me a focus and I was grateful for it. I’d spend all day mixing cement and carrying stuff around and in the evening I’d get a few beers down and have a laugh.
Quotes from the film:
Dalziel to Frannie Roote: Your problem is people fall in love with you. Men and women.
Frannie: If you say so... sweetie...
